Dhahabu by Matugga 58.8% (375ml)
$45.00
THE STORY: A vanguard of the burgeoning UK rum scene, Matugga represents an inspired fusion of distillation and flavor traditions from Scotland, the Caribbean & East Africa. Founders Paul & Jacine Rutasikwa draw from their Ugandan and Jamaican roots while crafting rums in their distillery in Scotland.
THE RUM: Matugga’s dunder-powered Golden Rum made an instant impression on us with its notes of tropical fruit and steely esters supported by a gently oaky backbone (from its aging in an ex-bourbon cask). Naturally, we were delighted to bottle this custom overproof version for their US debut. Named after the Swahili word for “gold”, Dhahabu is indeed a multi-cultural treasure for the discerning rum aficionado!
STRENGTH: 58.8% ABV H20: We suggest adding water moderately
PRODUCTION: Molasses in Pot still with dunder
CHARITY: 5% of profits from this bottle goes to Jamaica’s O.D.P.E.M. for relief efforts and rebuilding communities recovering from the Hurricane Melissa disaster.

Yowie Strikes Back – Australia 17 yr Rum
$65.00
Imagine that we sent the original Yowie to charm school and he returned one year older and 1% ABV stronger, still featuring the pre-2010 S. Pombe yeast trademark notes of floral eucalyptus and apricot but with new refined flavors of wild honey, white pepper and a dry matchstick finish. He’s more balanced, but still a BEAST! -
Pelée’s Fury – Martinique Grand Arôme Rum
$40.00
Vividly aromatic and pungent, this Grand Arôme Rum from Le Galion Distillery is not for the weak! Its long vinasse-powered fermentation creates prodigious amounts of ester flavor compounds and notes of wild tropical fruits, black olives, candied prunes and salted almonds. Beware the power of this unadulterated Grand Arôme! -
Guardians (8 yr Trinidad Rum)
$45.00OUR TAKE: Guardians is the real sleeper in this lineup – Trinidad has produced some of the greatest rum in history (RIP, Caroni!) but also puts out a lot of so-so high volume juice so we didn’t enter the selection process assuming we’d come out with a “Trini”. And while the Foursquare and the Guyana were big, bold flashy candidates, this Trinidad kept popping up, refusing to be ignored (maybe because it’s over TWO THIRDS alcohol but drinks more like a 55 percenter). We succumbed to its fruity delights with absolutely zero regrets!

Burning Cane (15 yr Barbados Foursquare)
$49.99We jumped all over this cask instantly – currently there isn’t a hotter distillery in rum than Foursquare and its hype as “The Pappy Van Winkle of rum” is fully deserved: Powerful and multi-dimensional yet very approachable, even for rum newbies. Some single cask Foursquares trade for four figures … but our Burning Cane gets you cask strength world class juice at an impressive 15 years of aging for less than $50. At the time of this bottle’s release we compared this to Foursqaure’s vaunted Exceptional Cask Series – it would have ranked #1 for highest ABV and #3 for longest aging.
Cask strength Foursquare of this age can be a seductive gateway to fine rum, with fragrant summer fruit notes to grab cognac aficionados & the caramel intensity and oaky backbone to pull in whiskey fans. This cask’s luscious kettle corn opening evolves to a prolonged tree bark and gingerbread cookie finish.
