Matugga White Rum (USA Edition)
$50.00
THE STORY: Hailing from Livingston, Scotland (near Edinburgh), Matugga Distillers Limited produces boldly distinctive rums drawing from the Jamaican and Ugandan heritage of founders Jacine and Paul Rutasikwa. From the very first sips of their rums we knew we wanted to bring their delightfully multicultural bottlings to the US! Their Swahili motto is “pole pole ndio mwendo”, meaning “slowly slowly is the way to go”, reflecting the patience and care that goes into every drop of Matugga rum.
THE RUM: The words “Funky” and “Fruity” on the label are the first clues that this is no ordinary white rum! Indeed, this rum comes right out of the gates with funky esters and tropical fruits with a dry, complex backbone that works both as a neat pour or in a killer daiquiri. This US exclusive bottling is boosted to 45% to give the US rums fans an extra notch of aromatic intensity.
AGING: Unaged
PRODUCTION: African molasses, a degree of wild fermentation, copper pot still
STRENGTH: 45% ABV

Kinnara 9 yr Thailand Rum
$40.00We’re excited to be one of the very first IBs to release a rum from Thailand. While most of their domestic releases are heavily sweetened, we were so thrilled that their unadulterated distillate is wonderful stuff (at a reasonable price!) that we bought two casks. We’ve always wanted a quality “gateway” rum that was instantly accessible to rum newbies but still had the complexity and stamina to impress jaded rum aficionados. We were thrilled to find this rum in Thailand, a new country for most rum drinkers.
Why is this the “male” cask? He has a strong lingering oaky finish while his sibling “female cask” opens beautifully with lush, resonant floral notes.

Guardians (8 yr Trinidad Rum)
$45.00OUR TAKE: Guardians is the real sleeper in this lineup – Trinidad has produced some of the greatest rum in history (RIP, Caroni!) but also puts out a lot of so-so high volume juice so we didn’t enter the selection process assuming we’d come out with a “Trini”. And while the Foursquare and the Guyana were big, bold flashy candidates, this Trinidad kept popping up, refusing to be ignored (maybe because it’s over TWO THIRDS alcohol but drinks more like a 55 percenter). We succumbed to its fruity delights with absolutely zero regrets!
