dunderclap still strength by rum et al 74% ABV (375 ml)
$60.00
THE STORY: We’re huge fans of Dr. Robyn Smith and her Los Angeles microdistillery “rum et al” where she applies her knowledge and scientific rigor from her PhD. in chemical engineering to the art of rum production. Her rums are bold, powerful and explosively delicious and we’re delighted to distribute her creations across the US!
From Dr. Robyn Smith, PhD: dunderclap at still strength (74/75%) has similar notes to 49% dunderclap, but the flavors and aromas are much more concentrated. on the nose there’s a variety of fruits, like dried apples, fruit leather, fig jam, raisins, and prunes. there are notes of vanilla and caramel alongside smarties and a touch of musk. on the palate, the sip is very oily and has very little heat. the first flavors i get are grape jelly and fig jam. there’s some earthiness that reminds me of wet branches. there are notes of candied grapefruit and honey roasted macadamia nuts.

Guardians (8 yr Trinidad Rum)
$45.00OUR TAKE: Guardians is the real sleeper in this lineup – Trinidad has produced some of the greatest rum in history (RIP, Caroni!) but also puts out a lot of so-so high volume juice so we didn’t enter the selection process assuming we’d come out with a “Trini”. And while the Foursquare and the Guyana were big, bold flashy candidates, this Trinidad kept popping up, refusing to be ignored (maybe because it’s over TWO THIRDS alcohol but drinks more like a 55 percenter). We succumbed to its fruity delights with absolutely zero regrets!

Burning Cane (15 yr Barbados Foursquare)
$49.99We jumped all over this cask instantly – currently there isn’t a hotter distillery in rum than Foursquare and its hype as “The Pappy Van Winkle of rum” is fully deserved: Powerful and multi-dimensional yet very approachable, even for rum newbies. Some single cask Foursquares trade for four figures … but our Burning Cane gets you cask strength world class juice at an impressive 15 years of aging for less than $50. At the time of this bottle’s release we compared this to Foursqaure’s vaunted Exceptional Cask Series – it would have ranked #1 for highest ABV and #3 for longest aging.
Cask strength Foursquare of this age can be a seductive gateway to fine rum, with fragrant summer fruit notes to grab cognac aficionados & the caramel intensity and oaky backbone to pull in whiskey fans. This cask’s luscious kettle corn opening evolves to a prolonged tree bark and gingerbread cookie finish.
